How to list current logged on users in Linux

September 19, 2016 by Zanidd

It is possible to check if other people are working on the workstation or server you’re currently using. All you have to do is to use the w command in the terminal:

By using the command like this

$ w

you’ll be prompted a list with all currently logged on users and their proceses.

Want to get information on a specific user? Try using his username

$ w root

Flags

  • -u the current process name will be ignored
  • -f shows the name of a remote host (if user is connecting on machine remotely)
  • -h hides the header
